Description

Canowindra is a 71 lot housing estate in Doncaster East, in the outer east of Melbourne. Beveridge Williams provided urban design and landscape architecture services to the client, working in collaboration with our surveyors, planners and engineers.

The estate is set on a picturesque, sloping site adjacent to the environmentally sensitive Mullum Mullum Creek and affords scenic vistas over the creek and parkland. Additional reserves have been designed that form part of the storm water management system, incorporating a bio-retention basin, as well as providing usable public open space.

The landscape architecture is an integral component of the estate’s success in terms of both its environmental and aesthetic characteristics. The landscaping of the estate provides high quality streetscapes and parkland utilising local indigenous vegetation and other drought tolerant plant species.

The addition of the bio-retention basin ensures that all stormwater flows leaving the development are treated in line with Urban Stormwater Best Practice Environmental Management Guidelines. The basin also acts as a landscape feature.
