Overview

The new Warragul Library and Learning Centre is the first stage of Baw Baw Council’s broader master plan for a vibrant and expanded civic, arts and cultural precinct. Immediately opposite the existing West Gippsland Arts Centre. Set within the picturesque Civic Park gardens, this new hub will provide vital social infrastructure for the community.

The landscape design features a range of flexible outdoor spaces to accommodate new and existing events such as the Warragul Art and Farmers Market, outdoor classes, performances, outdoor cinema and music concerts. A generous plaza with tiered deck seating affords views across the much loved gardens beyond.

An amphitheatre of lawn and terraced seating embraces the park’s topography and integrates the plaza and building with the parkland below. Pavement design provides a sense of address to build entrances, ease of circulation and visual cues.

Work Undertaken

BW worked closely with the consultant team to achieve a 5 star Greenstar energy rating.

The landscape layout reinforces linkages within the precinct and accessibility is maximised through the use of flush pavement transitions and shared vehicle and pedestrian zones. Generous tree canopy cover is carefully included throughout the paved areas to provide cool shaded areas in summer.
