Greenvale Gardens Wetland

Site Location: Greenvale Gardens, VIC

Project Overview

The Greenvale Gardens wetland is a significant floating wetland system within the Greenvale Gardens residential estate in Melbourne’s north.

The wetland, designed to manage stormwater and provide habitat to local wildlife, was a significant project for Frasers Property Group and the first floating wetland in Victoria.

While the estate itself is in a private residential area, the wetland contributes to the functional requirements of the broader Greenvale Reservoir Park.

Work Undertaken

Beveridge Williams, civil engineers, designed the award-winning floating wetland.

During the early stages of design, it was identified that the area available for the wetland was undersized for both detention and treatment requirements. Working closely with Melbourne Water and our client, we developed an outcome that was both innovative and unique in Victoria – setting a new benchmark for integrated water management in residential communities.

The floating pads were made with recycled plastic bottles, with 143,000 bottles being used in the Greenvale Gardens floating wetland.
