St Germain Town Centre – Retail Precinct

Site Location: Clyde North, VIC

Overview

St Germain is a master planned community focused on the promotion of healthy living and demonstrates a best practice approach in landscape architecture and urban design. Working closely with the project team, led by architects Clarke Hopkins Clarke, Beveridge Williams were able to provide a unique Town Centre which focused on creating a ‘green spine’ and maximizing external pedestrian experiences.

Throughout the St Germain Town Centre Retail Precinct, landscaped edges provide a vegetated buffer from traffic while also ensuring borrowed landscape views for the internal retail occupancies. Lush, hardy and drought tolerant species have been chosen, which provide a green back drop and safely indicate pedestrian thoroughfares. Integrated garden bed edges and seating provide ample opportunity for rest and dwelling. Paving thresholds have been thoughtfully considered, signify building entrances and places of interest. A public water play area is also provided, with interactive fountains, a water wheel and dam fixtures set within a permeable paving surface. All-abilities access was strongly considered throughout the design process and has been successfully delivered.
