Warragul Watershed

Overview

Beveridge Williams was engaged by Baw Baw Shire Council (BBSC) to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed ‘Watershed Trail,’ a looped shared path around Warragul. The idea was first introduced to the Council in May 2023 by the community group Bike and Walk Warragul, who provided a Community Vision and Concept Plan.

The Watershed Trail aligns with BBSC’s strategic goals for open space, infrastructure, and recreational development, as well as regional and state policies aimed at enhancing connectivity and promoting healthy communities.

The main objectives of the Watershed Trail include creating a continuous recreational loop, improving connectivity with existing paths, offering a strategic corridor for cycling, and ensuring accessibility for all users. Beveridge Williams analysed various potential alignments for the trail, considering factors such as town amenities, affected properties, heritage, flora and fauna, flooding, and slope analysis.

The feasibility study report provides BBSC with a comprehensive analysis of the feasibility of constructing the Watershed Trail, focusing on key considerations such as cost, planning constraints, construction staging, and potential challenges. Multiple alignments were explored for each stage, with cost-benefit analyses and recommendations for alternate paths where needed to address potential obstacles.

Work Undertaken

Beveridge Williams prepared a Feasibility Study Report for multiple alignments through and around the proposed route. This report was support by an OPC for all trail options, GIS mapping, Town planning advice as well as discussion with Baw Baw Shire Council and authorities.
