The Hazelwood Project
Two Survey assignments connected with the rehabilitation of the disused open cut mine at the decommissioned Hazelwood Power Station.
Overview
Two survey assignments connected with the rehabilitation of the disused open cut mine at the decommissioned Hazelwood Power Station.
One involved surveying and setting out the Moondarra Pipeline that will convey water from the Moondarra Dam to the disused mine in early 2021.
The second comprised similar work on the 3.2Km Eastern Ring Main pipeline that circumvents the mine to supply water for fire services and other uses.
Designed by others, the project necessitated the setting out of 26 anchor blocks, 108 pipeline guides, 890 pipe stools and a number of expansion loops, with some 1,076 survey pegs being placed.
The challenges faced by the survey teams included incorporating several design changes and working in close proximity to contractors undertaking other rehabilitation works.
Good cooperation with the principal contractors, Lendlease, ensured that the survey assignments were delivered cost effectively and in a timely manner.
