Old Stratford Rail Bridge over the Avon River

Work on historic Stratford Rail Bridge

Shae Hussey News, Projects

As part of the Gippsland Rail Line upgrade, Regional Rail Revival Gippsland are replacing the old historic rail bridge across the Avon River at Stratford, Victoria. Our Sale team, with the assistance of staff from the Traralgon and Ballarat offices have been providing survey services towards the construction of the new 500 metre bridge. Upgrades to the bridge will also include a flood relief structure and level crossing upgrades.

Early earthworks commenced in November 2019 and ran 24/7 until mid January in order to meet the train shutdown period. Since then our team have been involved in further earthworks and the set-out of foundation piles in both precast concrete and tubular steel.

Whilst piling is currently underway, we continually monitor the existing live rail and old bridge structure for movement. Construction of the bridge abutments and piers recently commenced and very soon the super structure will follow with T beams and bridge decks.

Every day brings with it a challenge, which we eagerly face head on. It's been fabulous to have so many talented Surveyors from across our various regional offices working together on this exciting project.

The bridge upgrade is anticipated to be completed in November 2020.
