Streetscape redesign as part of the Cooling Darwin project

There was a double celebration on Friday 1 July to not only acknowledge CLOUSTON Associates becoming part of Beveridge Williams but to also congratulate the CLOUSTON Northern Territory team, who brought home a timely award win on the same day.

Congratulations to Director of CLOUSTON NT Tony Cox and his team who won the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects SA and NT Urban Design Award for their Cooling Darwin project.

CLOUSTON engaged with all levels of Government to deliver the Cooling Darwin project across Darwin’s CBD, addressing the ever-increasing impacts of extreme heat.

The project aims to dramatically reduce surface temperatures utilising large spreading canopies and other simple means, revealing a sustainable way forward. By redressing space allocation, city streets and laneways have been transformed allowing large shade trees to thrive and dramatically drop surface temperatures. It’s a concept that’s gaining traction in cities further south.

Darwin is on Larrakia Country. We acknowledge the traditional owners of Country throughout Australia.
